Ty Mayfield | Give Me A Second

So for two months I’ve been anxiously waiting to blog these photos. Ty Mayfield, a Dallas/Tulsa based musician and songwriter, is releasing “Give Me A Second” his first full length album on April 19th. Back in Feb, we got together for a little shoot to get some promo pictures and they ended up making the cover! The graphics were done by Jason Yang of Invisible Element.

Hairspray @ the Woodlawn Theater!

Back in June, you may remember a headshot of a very talented young lady named Danielle Martinez. The day of the post she was auditioning for the Woodlawn theater’s production of Hairspray. Well, just so happens she got a part as one of the “nicest kids in town” due to her incredible headshot I am sure! As one of my best friends, I had to go see her in it!!! While up on stage you can tell that it is her place. She radiated with joy after the show. She did a fantastic job and it’s no surprise to me that she got a callback for the next large production Woodlawn is planning, Fame. Sure enough she was cast for a lead!

Set in 1962 Baltimore, Hairspray embraces it’s retro setting emphasizing the fashion, politics, and pop culture of the era. Costumes of the younger characters were uniquely 60’s while the older people still sported the plain, less flashy clothes of the 50’s. The sets were very complimentary to the action, while at the same time not overwhelming it. They provided just enough reference to the location to help the audience feel transported back in time. While most definitely a comedy, Hairspray still comments heavily the social issues of the 60’s and being comfortable with yourself, no matter how big you are.

Hairspray is a feel good, inspiration musical. It teaches lessons on how to be happy with your body type and how to overcome adversity. Since it is a comedy, it does so in a very upbeat, fun manner that is extremely entertaining. The Woodlawn Theater in San Antonio, Texas did a great production of it. From a technical standpoint the sound, lighting and sets were excellently done. Believe it or not, I actually preferred the lighting and sets to the Broadway version I saw on video! Hairspray’s catchy lyrics, quirky punchlines, social commentary and retro chic have made it one of the most popular musicals today! The Woodlawn theater definitely did justice to this great musical, so be sure to check out www.woodlawntheatre.com for more info on all their shows.

Welcome to the new website!

Hello everybody! This is the official first blog post on the new website!

Below you can see every old post from the old website. I decided to import them just in case anyone had any emotional attachment to them. It is not formatted in the same style that this new blog is, so some of the fonts and things are a little buggy.
